✈️ Before You Go

Myanmar’s e-Visa is a must for most tourists from over 100 countries (excluding those eligible for visa-free entry, like ASEAN members). Don’t be fooled by the “3 working days” promise—in practice, approvals often land within 24–48 hours, but weekends and Buddhist holidays can stretch it to a week. But what experienced travelers wish they knew earlier: You must present a printed copy of the approval letter at immigration, and the e-Visa is strictly for single entry via air (Yangon, Mandalay, Naypyidaw) or land borders (Tachileik, Myawaddy, etc.)—not for overland exits. Keep in mind: apply at least 10 days before departure, but check your passport’s validity—it must have 6 months left, and your photo must be a clean JPEG under 2MB. Also, have your hotel address and a rough itinerary ready, as the form asks for them. Avoid third-party agents; the official site (evisa.moip.gov.mm) charges $50 and is reliable.

⚠️ Important Notes

Application Window

Apply at least 2 weeks in advance. Official processing approx. 3 business days. Valid for entry within 90 days of approval.

💰

Cost

Tourist e-Visa USD 50, business e-Visa USD 70 (plus service fees)

Fees are subject to change — always confirm on the official site.

  • e-Visa is only valid at designated international airports (Yangon, Mandalay, Naypyidaw) — land border crossings cannot use e-Visa
  • Tourist visa allows a maximum stay of 28 days. You must enter Myanmar within 90 days of visa issuance — late entry voids the approval
  • Only use the official evisa.moip.gov.mm — avoid expensive third-party agent sites
  • Passport must be valid for at least 6 months. Upload a recent white-background ID photo meeting official specifications
  • Myanmar e-Visa processing typically takes 3 business days — apply at least 1-2 weeks in advance to allow for delays
  • You must provide your Myanmar accommodation address — the hotel name and phone number on your booking confirmation must match
  • Myanmar e-Visa is single-entry only — after leaving Myanmar, re-entry requires a new application
  • If holding a Myanmar e-Visa, use the designated e-Visa lane at immigration — check airport signage to avoid queuing in the wrong line
  • Myanmar government websites may be unstable due to network restrictions — if the page won't load, try again later or use a VPN
  • Some areas within Myanmar have travel restrictions for foreigners — holding an e-Visa does not mean unrestricted access to all regions

1

Account Creation

2fields

Create an account on the official Myanmar e-Visa portal to start your application.

Email Address

emailRequired

Enter a valid email address that you check regularly. This will be used for all correspondence and to receive your approved e-Visa. Use the same email for all future applications.

⚠ Common Mistakes

  • Using a rarely checked email address, causing missed approval notifications.
  • Typing the email incorrectly, leading to failed delivery of the e-Visa.

Password

passwordRequired

Create a strong password with at least 8 characters, including uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and special characters. Keep it secure and remember it for future logins.

⚠ Common Mistakes

  • Using a weak or easily guessable password, compromising account security.
  • Forgetting the password and being unable to log in to check application status.
2

Personal Information

4fields

Enter your full legal name, date of birth, and other identifying information — all of it must match your passport exactly, character for character.

Full Name (as in passport)

textRequired

Enter your full name exactly as it appears on your passport, including any middle names. Use the same order (surname first or given name first) as in the passport. Do not use nicknames or abbreviations.

⚠ Common Mistakes

  • Using a different name order than in the passport, causing mismatch at immigration.
  • Omitting a middle name or using a nickname, leading to visa rejection.

Date of Birth

dateRequired

Select your date of birth in the format DD/MM/YYYY as shown on your passport. Ensure the day and month are in the correct order to avoid errors.

⚠ Common Mistakes

  • Swapping day and month (e.g., entering 05/10 instead of 10/05), causing date mismatch.
  • Selecting the wrong year, leading to age discrepancy and visa denial.

Passport Number

textRequired

Enter your passport number exactly as it appears on the bio page of your passport. It is typically alphanumeric (e.g., A1234567). Do not include spaces or hyphens. Double-check for O/0 and I/1 confusion.

⚠ Common Mistakes

  • Confusing the letter O with the digit 0, or the letter I with the digit 1.
  • Adding spaces or hyphens, which may cause validation errors.

Nationality

selectRequired

Select your nationality from the dropdown list. Choose the country that issued your passport, not necessarily your country of residence. If you have dual nationality, use the passport you will travel with.

⚠ Common Mistakes

  • Selecting country of residence instead of passport-issuing country.
  • Choosing the wrong nationality due to similar country names (e.g., United States vs. United Arab Emirates).
3

Travel Details

3fields

Specify your intended arrival and stay in Myanmar, including visa type and entry point.

Visa Type

selectRequired

Choose 'Tourist' for a 28-day stay for tourism purposes (fee $50) or 'Business' for business activities (fee $70). Ensure you select the correct type; tourist visas cannot be used for business activities.

⚠ Common Mistakes

  • Selecting 'Tourist' when intending to conduct business, leading to entry denial.
  • Choosing 'Business' for a purely leisure trip, resulting in unnecessary higher fees.

Arrival Airport

selectRequired

Select the airport where you will first land in Myanmar. Only Yangon International Airport, Mandalay International Airport, and Nay Pyi Taw International Airport are valid for e-Visa entry. Do not select a land border crossing.

⚠ Common Mistakes

  • Selecting a land border crossing, which is not permitted for e-Visa entry.
  • Choosing an airport not on the approved list, leading to visa rejection.

Intended Date of Arrival

dateRequired

Enter the date you plan to arrive in Myanmar. This must be within 90 days from the visa approval date. The visa is valid for entry within 90 days of issuance, so plan accordingly.

⚠ Common Mistakes

  • Entering a date more than 90 days after visa approval, making the visa invalid.
  • Choosing a date that is too soon, not allowing enough processing time (3 business days).
4

Photo Upload

1fields

Upload a recent passport-style photograph that meets the official specifications.

Photo Upload

uploadRequired

Upload a recent color photograph with a white background, taken within the last 6 months. The photo should be in JPEG or PNG format, with a minimum resolution of 300x300 pixels and a maximum file size of 2MB. Ensure your face is clearly visible, with no shadows, and you are not wearing glasses or headwear (except for religious reasons).

⚠ Common Mistakes

  • Uploading a photo with a colored or patterned background, which will be rejected.
  • Submitting a photo with shadows or wearing glasses, causing the application to be delayed.
5

Declaration and Payment

2fields

Review your information, agree to the terms, and make the visa fee payment.

⚠ Common Mistakes

  • Skipping the declaration checkbox, preventing form submission.
  • Checking the box without verifying the accuracy of the information, risking penalties.

Payment Method

selectRequired

Select your preferred payment method. The portal typically accepts credit/debit cards (Visa, Mastercard) and possibly other online payment options. Ensure your card is enabled for international transactions.

  • Confusing the reference number with the visa approval number, causing mix-ups.
